PRIVATE LESSONS

As a teacher, Indigo's method is rooted in the idea of teaching a man to fish rather than giving him a fish. Every student, regardless of age or experience, will be taught to understand first and foremost how music works. Students come away not only with the skills to play the material covered in the lessons, but eventually also the ability to teach themselves any other material they're interested in.

GUITAR

With an emphasis on ear training, Indigo's natural approach to learning music theory makes even the most wary or challenged student understand with ease - and find pleasure in the process of learning. Rote memorization is eliminated and replaced by a deep understanding, which grows naturally while technique improves alongside it. Students quickly find themselves able to play, sing and understand things previously only dreamed of.

These universal building blocks of music apply across all genres. Technique will be tailored to your specific interests, and from the start, a portion of each lesson will be devoted to learning the material of your choice.

VOICE

THEORY

Indigo is a fantastic teacher! I’ve taken lessons with Indigo both online (recently) and in-person (when I used to live in NYC). Indigo’s teaching style really resonated with me - she provides incredible support and encouragement for beginners and her instruction has always helped me understand the weird nuances of singing and how to unlock my voice. She has also helped me with more advanced music theory/guitar during lesson to compliment the singing and help with songwriting. She also makes the online format work really well (which I can’t imagine is easy) and I’ve always felt like the online lessons were as valuable/productive as the in-person lessons I took before I moved.

I have been self-taught for a couple years and felt very stuck, learning disjointed online material, but Indigo has absolutely put me on a musical path! It feels really empowering to finally start having a grasp on theory and technique. I highly recommend.

I’m a complete newbie and Indigo has been a great instructor for helping to get me going! I appreciate that she brings in some basic music theory from the get-go so that you have a basis for understanding / navigating the instrument. I appreciate her patience and emphasis on slowing down and practicing with consistency.”

For me, what makes a good teacher is good communication, patience, and experience. That’s Indigo! She discovers what your goals are and works with you on the best route of getting there, ensuring that your theory and technique are being developed accordingly. She is meticulous about maintaining good habits while playing guitar, and devises custom exercises tailored to help you overcome obstacles. She’s simply the best!

Indigo is a fabulous and diverse teacher! I’ve been taking lessons with her for about 9 months. Although my lessons are “officially” for songwriting, we divide our time among that, guitar technique, and music theory. I’ve experienced so much progress and fun in several areas, and I attribute that to Indigo’s teaching and guidance. I even wrote and produced my first solo song! Don’t miss the chance to work with a great musician and teacher!

Indigo has a teaching style like no other I have encountered. For a while I’ve felt stuck & at a plateau with my playing until I started lessons with her. She works to connect your ear & body equally to the guitar, with a goal to be able to express yourself with the instrument as if it were a part of you. The lessons have been truly refreshing, and the work she assigns is stuff I could continue to learn more from for years. I am very excited to see where studying with this teacher will take me in the long run.

It’s hard to imagine a better guitar instructor than Indigo. As an aspiring singer-songwriter, I came to Indigo a few months ago pleading that she teach me the ins and outs of the instrument. I tasked her with this: save me from joining the masses of capo-dependent hopefuls. Not only does she customize lessons with my goals in mind (ear training, technique, theory), but she breaks down the ‘intimidating’ concepts in a sneaky way. One day, while practicing, I started to realize her genius! No longer is the guitar a complete mystery to me. She is easy-going, patient and encouraging. I look forward to my lessons with Indigo every week. I think of her as a mentor and hope to work with her for a long time. Needless to say, I highly recommend!! I imagine with her brilliant skills and experience Indigo would make a wonderful teacher for just about anyone!
